Limulunga, May 16, 2025 – Jubilation and celebration filled the air as Limulunga-based taxi and bus drivers plying the Limulunga-Mongu route received a generous one-off fuel donation from their area Member of Parliament, Honorable Mubita Anakoka.
The gesture, which saw over 30 drivers each receive 10 litres of fuel for their vehicles, was met with immense gratitude, with beneficiaries praising the lawmaker for his unwavering support and approachable leadership.
Drivers hailed Hon. Anakoka as an MP who remains connected to his constituents. “The good thing with our MP is that he lives among us and only goes to Lusaka when Parliament is in session,” remarked one youth representative.
Mike Munalula Nyambe, a spokesperson for the bus drivers, expressed his appreciation, stating that this was the first time an MP had recognized their efforts in such a manner. “We are truly grateful for this support. It shows that our MP values us,” Nyambe said.
The drivers also commended the UPND government for the rapid rehabilitation of the Mongu-Limulunga road, which had been in poor condition for years. They pledged continued support for the New Dawn administration, citing tangible improvements in infrastructure and empowerment initiatives.
Speaking during the handover, Hon. Anakoka emphasized that the gesture was in recognition of the crucial role public transport drivers—most of whom are youths—played in ushering the UPND into power in 2021.
“The UPND values the support of the youth, and this small token is a way of cementing our appreciation,” he said. He further encouraged young people to take advantage of various government empowerment programs designed to uplift their livelihoods.
The youths also expressed gratitude for the ongoing Anakoka Cup, a constituency-wide football tournament that has been running for the past year. They appealed for the inclusion of other sports like netball and athletics in future initiatives.
In response, Hon. Anakoka revealed that the first phase of the tournament had already been completed in nine of Luena’s 13 wards. He assured constituents that plans were underway to expand sporting activities to nurture more talent in the constituency.
“We want to ensure that the hidden potential in Luena is brought to the fore,” he stated.
The event ended on a high note, with drivers and youths reaffirming their support for the UPND government, confident in its commitment to grassroots development.
