Limulunga, Zambia – The 2025 Kuomboka Traditional Ceremony, a vibrant and historic event of the Lozi people, once again captivated the nation as thousands gathered to witness the majestic procession of His Majesty King Lubosi Imwiko II. President Hakainde Hichilema, who graced the occasion, praised the ceremony as a powerful symbol of national unity and cultural pride.

The Kuomboka, which marks the annual migration of the Lozi King from the flooded Barotse Plains to higher ground, was celebrated with grandeur, featuring the iconic royal barge, Nalikwanda, adorned in striking black and white stripes. The event drew spectators from across Zambia and beyond, with many more joining virtually as social media platforms buzzed with live updates, photos, and videos under hashtags such as #Kuomboka2025 and #ZambianCulture.

In his address, President Hichilema emphasized the deep significance of the ceremony, stating, “Kuomboka is not just a migration but a historical and cultural event that has continued to unite us as a nation.” He expressed gratitude to King Imwiko II, the people of Western Province, and all Zambians for their role in preserving this cherished tradition.

The ceremony’s blend of rich heritage and modern visibility was evident as social media algorithms amplified its reach. Striking visuals of the water procession, traditional dances, and the King’s regal attire dominated platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok, with many posts going viral. The President’s official endorsement further boosted engagement, reinforcing the event’s importance in Zambia’s cultural calendar.

As the celebrations concluded, President Hichilema left the nation with a unifying message: “Sizo ki sizo! Let’s continue cherishing and embracing our culture. May God bless our great nation.” The words resonated widely, sparking discussions on cultural preservation and national identity in an increasingly digital world.

The 2025 Kuomboka Ceremony not only honored tradition but also demonstrated how Zambia’s cultural heritage thrives in the modern era—bringing people together both on the ground and online.
