The Library Development Foundation (LDF), led by Mrs. Leonissa Chalabesa and Mr. Manson Mutumba, recently participated in a pivotal public health discussion at the University of Zambia. The event, which brought together health experts, university students, politicians, and members of the differently-abled community, was organised by prominent organisations such as Edu Flare and MediTalk.
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Chalabesa passionately introduced LDF’s mission to the attendees, highlighting the Foundation’s dedication to promoting literacy and education through libraries. She underscored the pivotal role libraries play in enhancing access to knowledge, fostering community development, and driving social progress.
Mr. Manson Mutumba, who followed Mrs. Chalabesa, delivered a powerful address on the intersection of literature, storytelling, and public health. He highlighted the importance of a robust reading culture in shaping public health perceptions, mental wellness, and informed decision-making. Mr. Mutumba emphasised that libraries are vital in supporting public health campaigns, ensuring communities, particularly in Zambia, have access to credible and essential health information.
The session was capped by an interactive Q&A, where attendees eagerly engaged with LDF’s representatives, seeking insights into strategies for inclusivity, particularly for the differently-abled community. LDF responded by outlining ongoing efforts to bridge knowledge gaps and ensure equal access to educational resources for all.
LDF views this event as a significant milestone in their journey of collaboration with stakeholders in public health, education, and social development. The Foundation remains committed to making libraries accessible to every corner of Zambia, empowering individuals through knowledge and fostering a brighter, more inclusive future.
