TOKYO, JAPAN — February 6, 2025 — This morning, President Hakainde Hichilema had the privilege of attending the Zambia-Japan Business Forum in Tokyo, where the country showcased its wealth of natural resources and investment opportunities to over 100 prominent Japanese companies.

The event provided an excellent platform for Zambia to highlight its rich copper reserves, critical minerals, and stable, peaceful environment—key factors that make the country an ideal destination for business and investment. Among the areas of focus was the Zambian government’s target of achieving 3 million tonnes of annual copper production, a critical step toward boosting the national economy.

The Zambian delegation extended an invitation to Japanese companies to explore the vast opportunities available in Zambia, particularly within the copper, critical minerals, and energy sectors. These industries are seen as instrumental in helping the country meet its ambitious economic goals.

“We are committed to supporting investments, including those from Japan,” President Hichilema stated, following a bilateral meeting with the Japanese Government. “This commitment is crucial as we work together to enhance Zambia’s position as a global business hub.”

In line with this commitment, the Zambian government is dedicated to fostering a business-friendly environment that attracts foreign investment, especially in industries that are key to Zambia’s economic development.

President Hichilema emphasized the importance of fostering stronger ties between Zambia and Japan. “Our ultimate goal is to grow our economy and improve the lives of our people,” he said. “We believe Japan’s expertise, coupled with Zambia’s resources, can lead to mutually beneficial investments that will drive our economic transformation.”

The Zambia-Japan Business Forum is expected to pave the way for stronger economic partnerships, with both countries aiming to create a brighter future through sustainable growth and collaboration.

Zambia, known for its vast natural resources, including copper, is one of Africa’s most promising investment destinations. The country’s strategic location, peaceful environment, and growing energy sector make it an attractive hub for business, with immense potential for international partnerships.
