Lusaka, Zambia | 5 February 2025 | Itezhi Tezhi Town Council Management appeared before the Local Government Accounts Committee to respond to audit report queries for the financial year ending 31st December 2023. The session, held in Lusaka, focused on financial accountability, expenditure justification, and governance compliance.
Itezhi Tezhi Member of Parliament, Hon. Twaambo Mutinta, attended the meeting as an observer and commended the council management for their responses. However, the MP emphasised that while the council did not bring embarrassment to the district, more work needs to be done to enhance efficiency and transparency in financial management.
“As representatives of the people, our responsibility is to ensure that public resources are used prudently, procedures are followed, and services are delivered efficiently. This meeting was a crucial step in ensuring that accountability remains a priority at the local government level,” said Hon. Mutinta.
The MP reaffirmed commitment to providing oversight and ensuring that the council upholds fiscal discipline and adherence to due process. The audit report discussions highlighted areas that require urgent improvement, particularly in resource management and service delivery timelines.
Hon. Mutinta further urged stakeholders, including community members and local leaders, to work together in strengthening accountability mechanisms. “By joining hands, we can achieve better governance, improved service delivery, and sustainable development for the people of Itezhi Tezhi,” he added.
The Local Government Accounts Committee continues to scrutinise reports from councils across the country to ensure compliance with public finance regulations and effective use of resources.
