Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Today, African Heads of State and Government, including Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema, convened at the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit in Tanzania. This groundbreaking summit sets a bold agenda: achieving electricity access for 300 million Africans by 2030.

Africa faces a critical challenge, with 685 million people out of over 1 billion lacking reliable access to electricity—a figure that underscores the urgency of action. This energy gap is not just an infrastructure issue; it’s a roadblock to economic growth, industrialization, and improved quality of life for millions.

In his remarks, President Hichilema emphasized the need for Africa-centric solutions to tackle this pressing issue. “Energy is a critical component to growing our economies. As leaders, we have committed to finding initiatives that will accelerate this ambitious agenda of clean and sustainable renewable energy. Africa must look within before seeking solutions outside the continent,” he stated.

The summit served as a platform for African leaders to discuss innovative strategies for closing the energy gap through renewable energy investments. Discussions included fostering partnerships, mobilizing resources, and creating an enabling environment to drive energy projects.

President Hichilema highlighted the importance of investing in clean and sustainable energy, calling it a cornerstone for Africa’s economic transformation. “We cannot underestimate the role energy plays in unlocking the potential of our continent. For us to achieve this vision, we need deeper commitments and strategic investments in the energy sector.”

The Mission 300 initiative is not just about energy—it’s about creating opportunities for job creation, poverty alleviation, and industrial growth. Electricity access will unlock doors for education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship, transforming communities across Africa.

For Zambia, President Hichilema’s presence at the summit underscores the country’s commitment to being at the forefront of Africa’s energy revolution. As the continent moves toward 2030, this shared vision of powering Africa sustainably remains a beacon of hope.
