Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – January 27, 2025
President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia held a pivotal bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé of Ivory Coast on the sidelines of the 300 Africa Energy Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This high-level dialogue underscored a shared commitment to strengthening intra-African trade and fostering closer collaboration among African nations.
The discussions centered on the belief that Africa’s economic growth must begin from within. President Hichilema emphasized, “Before we look for trade and investment partnerships outside the continent, we must prioritize trading among ourselves. Intra-African trade is the cornerstone for sustainable development.”
The two leaders explored multiple avenues for mutual cooperation, including expanding trade, improving regional connectivity, and enhancing energy and infrastructure development.
President Hichilema also extended warm greetings and best wishes to Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara and the people of Ivory Coast, reaffirming Zambia’s dedication to forging lasting partnerships with fellow African nations.
This meeting comes at a time when the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is unlocking significant opportunities for economic integration across the continent. Zambia and Ivory Coast, both key players in regional trade, continue to explore shared strategies to maximize these opportunities.
The bilateral meeting reflects Africa’s increasing focus on self-reliance, showcasing leadership that prioritizes collaboration for long-term prosperity.
