Lusaka, 15th December 2024 – The Agricultural and Commercial Co-operative Society of Zambia (ACSZ), also known as the Show Society, held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday, 13th December 2024, at 14:00 hours at the Showgrounds Members Pavilion in Lusaka. During the AGM, Dr. Kelvin Kamayoyo, a renowned Zambian economist, was elected as a member of the ACSZ By-Laws Committee, marking his return to the Committee which he last chaired in 2020.
The ACSZ is an autonomous, non-partisan, non-profit organization responsible for organizing the annual prestigious agricultural and commercial shows, exhibitions, and other events in Zambia. The Society is democratically controlled by its members. Dr. Kamayoyo previously served as Chairperson of the ACSZ By-Laws Committee in 2019 and 2020.
Dr. Kamayoyo returns to the By-Laws Committee with extensive expertise in corporate governance (transparency and accountability), competition law, trade facilitation, industrial policy in Africa, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning. His vast experience also includes knowledge of cooperative operations in various countries such as Cambodia, Senegal, Egypt, Tanzania, Kenya, India, Pakistan, Rwanda, the Netherlands, Bolivia, New Zealand, and Bangladesh.
Regarding the impending review of the ACSZ By-laws, Dr. Kamayoyo expressed optimism that his Committee will produce inclusive By-Laws that foster democracy and incentivize general members of the Society with annual dividends paid from recorded surplus income in a particular financial year. He emphasized that the cooperative business model could be a viable game-changer in promoting sustainable agriculture and transforming lives across the African continent.
