The Government has asserted that there was no illegality in the procurement process for the 156 basic life support ambulances, nor in the awarding of the related tender. Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary Nicholas Phiri confirmed that the procurement process was strictly adhered to.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. Phiri explained that the Government opted for limited bidding after the open bidding criteria failed. He emphasized that this approach is in line with the Zambia Public Procurement Authority (ZPPA) Act and its regulations.
In a related development, Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Donor Coordination George Sinyangwe dismissed reports suggesting that donors have withdrawn their support for the health sector. Mr. Sinyangwe reaffirmed the continued commitment of donor partners to supporting Zambia’s health initiatives.
Furthermore, Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana highlighted that more tenders for the supply of goods and services will be awarded to citizen bidders, provided they meet the necessary requirements. This move is part of the Government’s effort to empower local businesses and foster local entrepreneurship.
The Government remains committed to transparency and accountability in all procurement processes, ensuring that all tenders are conducted in accordance with established laws and regulations.
