The SRHR Africa Trust has emphasized the urgent need to prioritize the allocation of resources for adolescent-friendly spaces to effectively address the challenges facing young people in the country.
In a special interview, Senior Programmes Manager Martin Silukena highlighted that these friendly spaces would provide young individuals with a platform to engage in discussions concerning sexual and reproductive health. He stated that creating adolescent-friendly spaces is crucial for addressing issues like teenage pregnancy.
Mr. Silukena expressed concern over the scarcity of such spaces in many districts, which hinders young people’s access to vital information and support. “The lack of adolescent-friendly spaces in many communities is a significant barrier to providing young people with the necessary education and resources to make informed decisions about their health,” he noted.
He has since advised leaders in various communities to utilize the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to respond proactively to the issues affecting youths. “We urge community leaders to allocate part of the CDF to create and maintain spaces where young people can receive support and guidance on sexual and reproductive health matters,” Mr. Silukena added.
By investing in these spaces, the SRHR Africa Trust believes that the country can make significant strides in improving the health and well-being of its young population, ensuring they are equipped to face future challenges.
