Chitambo Town Council has successfully disbursed funds to beneficiaries participating in the cash-for-work program for the month of September. This initiative is part of a broader effort to support communities affected by the severe drought impacting the 2023-2024 farming season.
These funds are designed to help mitigate the challenges posed by the drought by providing essential support for families struggling to secure food and livelihood.
Ass. Public relations officer Rodrick Nyirenda, revealed that a total of 780 beneficiaries have been compensated, receiving a combined amount of K468,000. Meanwhile, a second group of 2700 beneficiaries across the district will begin working on Monday, 21, October.
The cash-for-work program aligns with the vision articulated by His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema, emphasizing that “no one will die of hunger .” The cash-for-work initiative not only offers immediate financial relief but also promotes community resilience by engaging beneficiaries in meaningful work that contributes to local development.
Reports of improved food security and a renewed sense of hope amidst challenging circumstances has cheered Local officials who are optimistic that continued support will help stabilize the region and foster sustainable agricultural practices in the future.
