In a recent statement, former Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo expressed deep concern over the ongoing attacks against Ms. Chipo Mwanawasa by anonymous online bloggers.
He characterized these attacks as not only personal but also as an affront to Chipo’s professional ties with President Hakainde Hichilema.
Lusambo emphasized that Chipo is regarded as part of their family, referring to her late father, Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, as a paternal figure to their community. He articulated a collective responsibility among the Lamba people to defend Chipo, particularly when her integrity is under siege.
Lusambo condemned the discussions surrounding Chipo’s personal life, especially those that involve the President, labeling such behavior as a disgraceful low for the nation. He underscored the importance of respecting the presidency and criticized the unwarranted entanglement of the highest office in trivial matters.
Furthermore, he praised President Hichilema as a dedicated family man who has handled his personal affairs with dignity, asserting that any attempts to malign his character in this context are baseless. While acknowledging that there may be differences in opinion regarding the President’s governance, Lusambo affirmed their commitment to safeguarding the dignity of his office.
He highlighted that Chipo’s appointment at State House was based on her qualifications and that she serves as an inspiring figure for young women in the professional realm.
Lusambo called for an end to the spread of malicious rumors and urged Zambians to embrace the spirit of Ubuntu in their interactions, especially considering Chipo’s recent loss of her mother, which makes the timing of these attacks particularly insensitive.
In a heartfelt appeal, Hon. Lusambo has urged the public to grant Chipo and the extended Mwanawasa family the necessary space and time to grieve the loss of Madam Maureen Mwanawasa.
The call for privacy and tranquility during this difficult period was articulated in a statement shared on Lusambo’s Facebook page, which has since been widely circulated and reported by Melo News.
The sentiment reflects a deep respect for the family’s need to process their sorrow away from the public eye, emphasizing the importance of compassion during times of mourning.
