Citizens First (CF) president Harry Kalaba has emphasized the need for fertilizer production companies in each Zambian province to reduce costs.
Mr. Kalaba cited expensive imports from countries like Russia, Ukraine, and Saudi Arabia as a major obstacle for farmers.
Speaking on Mkushi Radio in central province today, Mr. Kalaba attributed farmers’ inadequate production to delayed government input supply due to import reliance.
Mr.Kalaba criticized President Hakainde Hichilema’s government for failing to provide timely farming inputs, stating that farmers should have received them by now, with the planting season imminent.
Mr. Kalaba pledged to establish fertilizer manufacturing companies in every province, supporting Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia, if elected president in 2026.
He vowed to prioritize agricultural development and ensure resources are allocated to support local fertilizer production.
