The Local Government Service Commission has announced plans to initiate the recruitment of over 700 new positions within the Local Government sector.
Chairperson Ackson Sejani highlighted that these roles will primarily focus on technical disciplines, including engineering, surveying, and architecture.
During a press conference held in Lusaka, Mr. Sejani elaborated on how the ongoing restructuring of the Local Government has led to the emergence of these new job opportunities. He confirmed that the Cabinet has approved the new organizational structure for all 96 town councils, with only the municipal councils pending approval.
Furthermore, he noted that the restructuring has involved renaming certain roles, such as the Deputy Council Secretary, which has now been designated as Director of Human Resources. Additionally, the reorganization has facilitated the establishment of new departments, including the Department of Community Services.
Mr. Sejani emphasized that these changes align with the Government’s decentralization policy, revealing that the Commission has already received over 35,000 workers from the Central Government, with a target of 51,000 in total.
