The Ministry of Finance has allocated a substantial sum of 100 million kwacha to initiate the first phase of the development project aimed at enhancing the Kanyama compound in Lusaka. This initial phase will focus on critical infrastructure improvements, including the construction of robust concrete drainage systems, the drilling of boreholes, and the establishment of connections for properties to access essential water supply and sanitation services.
Nicholas Phiri, the Permanent Secretary for Local Government, emphasized that this initiative is crucial for mitigating health risks associated with inadequate sanitation and flooding, which have historically plagued the area. During a consultative meeting held in Kanyama, Mr. Phiri assured residents that those whose properties may be impacted by the construction efforts will receive compensation from the government, ensuring that the community is supported throughout the process.
Additionally, Monty Chinkuli, the Member of Parliament for Kanyama, expressed his enthusiasm for the project’s implementation, highlighting the positive changes it is expected to bring to the community. He conveyed his eagerness to see the plans come to fruition, underscoring the importance of this development for the residents of Kanyama.
