The Zambian Institute of Chartered Accountants ZiCA has called on the government to address the issues that are in the energy sector for the betterment of the country.
And speaking at the media briefing held in Lusaka today ZiCA presidential Yande Siame Mwenya Notes that ZiCA is considered with the extent continued energy crisis, stating that the impact of the lack of power has had a negative impact on the growth of the economy.
She explains that with raising unemployment and SME closures, the energy crisis directly impacts employers and livelihoods hence the need to swift actions to stabilise the power supply that can help to preserve jobs and support the formal sector.
She notes that the reduction of power supply impacts irrigation system, leading to the lower crop yields in 2023 maize production which lead to a decrease by 20 percent compared to other previous.
