Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba has made a plea to the public to come forward with any information regarding the whereabouts of Petauke Central Member of Parliament Emmanuel Banda, urging them to alert the police if they have any relevant details.
Mr. Musamba emphasized the importance of people feeling comfortable and safe in sharing any information they may have with the police.
Zambia Correctional Service Commissioner General Frederick Chilukutu has stated that Mr. Banda’s escape from lawful custody was due to negligence on the part of the officers responsible for his supervision.
This statement was made during a press briefing in Chipata, where both Mr. Musamba and Mr. Chilukutu addressed the media after inspecting the ward from which Mr. Banda escaped.
The escape occurred at Chipata Central Hospital, where Mr. Banda allegedly jumped through a window on the third floor of the premium ward. As a result, the police have initiated a manhunt to locate and apprehend Mr. Banda.
Prior to his escape, Mr. Banda had been remanded at Namuseche Prison in Chipata while awaiting his High Court appearance for charges related to aggravated robbery and attempted robbery.
