The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment Douty Chibamba has graced the Economics Association of Zambia’s summit today at Ceila Resort of Chongwe District that was held under the theme ” Navigating navigate to climate change adaptation post debt restructuring “.
And speaking on behalf of the Minister of Green Economy and Environment Mike Mposha, he notes that adverse climate has threatened the national’s sustainable development goals, stating that the growth rate projection for 2024 has been downgraded from 4.4 percent to 2.3 percent.
He notes that there is need to deepen the understanding on the challenge of climate change hence the ministry stands ready to partnering with various institutions.
Therefore, he has urged the Economics Association of Zambia to consider undertaking a study to quantify the economic impacts on the climate change.
Meanwhile the president of the Economics Association of Zambia EAZ Oswald Mungule notes that this year’s summit theme will guide the country on what is required to be done for macroeconomic sustainability and resilience into the midst of climate change.
He notes that the summit intends to achieve a comprehensive national strategy for Zambias economic transformation, incorporating climate change adaptation, post debt restructuring efforts and inclusive growth objectives.
He therefore says that, this year’s summit will document challenges and recommendations of the government and private sector.
