The Zambezi regional police in Namibia have reported the arrest of approximately 146 illegal immigrants from Zambia and Zimbabwe, with plans to deport them in the near future. This comes after the launch of a crime prevention campaign aimed at addressing issues such as housebreak and cattle theft, as well as cracking down on illegal immigration.
According to regional police spokesperson inspector Kisco Sitali, some of the detained immigrants were found to be in possession of prohibited goods and cannabis, and were apprehended for smuggling goods at illegal entry points. In addition to the immigration-related charges, the police have opened cases against them for these additional offenses.
Sitali further explained that the immigrants are currently undergoing screening by immigration officials, and once this process is completed, they will be repatriated to their respective countries. He also noted that fines have been imposed on some of the individuals for the additional offenses, while those facing more serious charges will remain in custody.
The police have emphasized that the crime prevention campaign is ongoing, urging the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities within their areas. This effort reflects the authorities’ commitment to maintaining law and order in the region and addressing various security concerns.
