The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has recently disposed of peanut butter that did not meet the required standards, valued at approximately K117,420. This action was taken to ensure the safety of consumers as the non-compliant product posed a risk due to not meeting the Zambian Standard (ZS) 723: Peanut Butter – Specification.
The disposal process took place in Chilanga District following a product recall notice issued by the Agency to specific suppliers in Lusaka. ZCSA conducted thorough assessments and identified batches of peanut butter that were deemed non-compliant, emphasizing the importance of adhering to Compulsory Standards to protect consumers.
Peanut Butter falls under the category of food products covered by Compulsory Standards, and ZCSA is urging manufacturers and importers to comply with the set standards to ensure consumer safety. The Agency will continue to collaborate with stakeholders in the food industry to enhance consumer protection and ensure that all products meet the required safety standards.
In addition to disposal activities, ZCSA will carry out Public Education and Enforcement initiatives to further strengthen consumer protection measures. As a statutory body under the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry, ZCSA is mandated by the Compulsory Standards Act No. 3 of 2017 to enforce standards for public safety, health, and environmental protection.
