New information has surfaced regarding the missing flight believed to have crash-landed in Chikangawa, with Malawi Vice President Saulos Chilima on board.
Recent reports confirm that Mrs. Mary Chilima was not one of the passengers who went missing, contrary to earlier information.
The passenger list indicates that Chilima and his wife, Mary, are among those feared to have been involved in the plane crash.
Notably, former first lady Patricia Shanil Muluzi is listed as one of the eight passengers aboard the aircraft, which is registered under the Malawi Defence Forces.
The remaining passengers identified on the manifest are Mr. Lukas Kapheni, Mr. Chisomo Chimaneni, Ms. Gloria Mtukule, Mr. Dan Kanyemba, and Mr. Abdul Kingstone Lapukeni.
In response to the situation, a rescue team has been dispatched to the area where the incident is believed to have occurred. State President Lazarus Chakwera has decided to cancel his scheduled trip to the Bahamas.
President Chakwera is expected to address the nation later tonight, as the rescue efforts have reportedly been put on hold until tomorrow.
