Tragedy has once again struck as the consumption of home-made alcohol has resulted in the loss of five lives at Chongela Farm in Choongwe district, following a recent incident where more than a dozen individuals died in Southern Province after consuming a deadly concoction that included shoe polish.
The workers at Chongela Farm had unknowingly ingested the lethal homemade alcohol, which was created by mixing spirit of salt with a juice drink referred to as sweetener, leading to the unfortunate deaths of five individuals.
In addition to the fatalities, four other workers are currently battling for their lives after consuming the illegal alcohol, highlighting the dangers associated with the production and consumption of such toxic substances.
The survivors are now under medical care at Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital, receiving treatment in an effort to recover from the harmful effects of the poisonous alcohol. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks posed by the consumption of unregulated and dangerous homemade alcoholic beverages.
