Mr. Kangwa expressed his concern about the misuse of government vehicles, fuel, and maintenance, emphasizing the need for it to stop. He referred to the 2018 SI, which clearly outlines who should be driving government vehicles, and urged immediate compliance. Only drivers with valid licenses should be allowed to operate these vehicles.
In addition, Mr. Kangwa instructed that all government vehicles should be parked by 18:00 hours. He emphasized that individuals who are not entitled to personal-to-holder vehicles must refrain from driving government motor vehicles.
Furthermore, the Secretary to the Cabinet directed that public service officials traveling abroad should opt for economy class instead of business class. This measure aims to ensure responsible use of public funds.
To maintain national unity, Mr. Kangwa warned recruiting officers of severe consequences if they fail to enforce measures promoting inclusivity and diversity. Recent events have raised concerns about the unity of the nation, and the government is taking a firm stance against any actions that threaten it.
President Hakainde Hichilema has made it clear that the national unity Zambia has enjoyed for generations will not be compromised. Mr. Kangwa echoed the president’s call for unity, emphasizing the role of the public service in promoting inclusivity. He stated that the composition of the public service should reflect the diversity of the nation, and recruitment should be based on competence rather than ethnicity.
Mr. Kangwa expects all service commissions and permanent secretaries to prioritize national unity in their recruitment, deployment, and promotion processes. The public service should serve as a symbol of unity, with inclusivity at its core.
He mentioned that those who do not uphold these procedures will face suitable penalties. This is the standard that the citizens of Zambia anticipate from us.
