Livingstone, Zambia – In a heartfelt message shared on his official Facebook page, President Hakainde Hichilema has emphasized the urgent need for environmental conservation to combat the pressing climatic challenges posed by El Niño.
“Fellow citizens, it is our considered position that we must conserve nature in order for our communities to survive these climatic challenges,” President Hichilema stated. He highlighted the severe impacts of climate change, noting that the world, including Zambia, is experiencing various catastrophes due to El Niño.
The President underscored the reality of climate change and the necessity for collective action. “We must all refrain from involving ourselves in activities that would further lead to more difficulties associated with it,” he urged. Specifically, he pointed to the detrimental effects of deforestation and other environmentally harmful activities on human survival.
President Hichilema called on all Zambians to prioritize the preservation and conservation of nature, stressing that it is essential for the continuation of human existence and the betterment of life.
The President’s message came on the eve of the official opening ceremony of the Kavango Zambezi Trans Frontier Conservation Area (KAZA) in Livingstone. He hosted visiting Heads of State and government officials, where the importance of environmental conservation was a key topic of discussion.
“Together, let’s conserve and preserve our environment for a better tomorrow,” President Hichilema concluded.
The KAZA event aims to foster regional cooperation in conservation efforts and highlights the significance of collective action in addressing environmental challenges.
