Effective from the 6th of May 2024, Mr. James Banda has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) Board of Directors by the Honourable Peter Kapala, MP, who is the Minister of Energy. This appointment comes after the removal of Mr. Reynolds Bowa on the 3rd of May, 2024.
Prior to his new role, Mr. Banda held the position of Vice-Chairperson of the ERB Board of Directors. With an impressive background in the legal profession, he has dedicated over 25 years to specializing in Construction and Energy Law, earning recognition both locally and internationally.
Mr. Banda’s accomplishments extend beyond his legal expertise. He has previously served as the President of the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) and has been actively involved in various prestigious organizations. Notably, he has held the position of President for the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Lawyers Association and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Zambia Branch.
As an Advocate of all the Superior Courts of Zambia, Mr. Banda possesses extensive knowledge and experience in the legal field. Additionally, he is a certified Arbitrator, having obtained his certification from the esteemed Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. His dedication to justice is further demonstrated by his role as a Commissioner of the Small Claims Court.
With his vast expertise and remarkable achievements, Mr. James Banda is well-equipped to lead the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) as its Chairperson. His appointment signifies a commitment to ensuring effective regulation and governance within the energy sector, and his extensive background in law and energy will undoubtedly contribute to the board’s success in the years to come.
