The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has recently launched an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of loans that were secured by the PF Administration for the purpose of road construction and other projects. It has been reported that these loans were not utilized for their intended purpose, prompting the DEC to take action. DEC Director General Nason Banda has emphasized the Commission’s commitment to actively investigate any potential misappropriation of funds, ensuring that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
In addition to addressing the issue of misappropriated loans, Director General Nason Banda has also highlighted the importance of the non-conviction forfeiture of goods that are believed to be proceeds of crime. He considers this approach to be one of the most effective methods for recovering stolen assets. During an interview with journalists in Lusaka, Mr. Banda expressed his views on the matter, emphasizing the significance of this model in combating financial crimes and ensuring that stolen assets are returned to their rightful owners.
During the interview, it was revealed that Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of Northern and Muchinga Provinces had paid a visit to the DEC. As a result of his commendable efforts in raising awareness about drug abuse and its detrimental effects, the traditional leader was honored by the DEC. Mr. Banda presented him with a well-deserved medal, recognizing his dedication to combating drug abuse within his chiefdom. This recognition ceremony served as a platform for the Paramount Chief to advocate for increased collaboration between the DEC and various chiefdoms across the country, in order to collectively address the issue of drug abuse and trafficking.
Paramount Chief Chitimukulu emphasized the negative impact of drug abuse on the future of the youth during his address at the recognition ceremony. He called for a united front in the fight against drug abuse, stressing the importance of collaboration between the DEC and chiefdoms throughout the nation. The Chief’s anti-drug abuse sensitization programs within his chiefdom have been highly regarded, and his efforts have not gone unnoticed. The recognition bestowed upon him by the DEC serves as a testament to his commitment and dedication to creating a drug-free environment for the youth, ensuring a brighter future for generations to come.
