The claims that Kitwe based Catholic Priest, Father Peter Mwango, has been summoned by the police for inviting Former President Edgar Lungu to an event as a guest of honor have been dismissed by the Copperbelt Province Commissioner of Police, Peacewell Mweemba.
The report circulating on social media platforms, which suggested that Father Mwango was required to appear at the Copperbelt Division Headquarters in Ndola on Thursday, May 16, 2024, for questioning, has been deemed untrue.
It was stated that ten armed police officers, dressed in plain clothes, delivered the summons to Parish Priest Emmanuel Kabwe at the parish house while Father Mwango was away on duty.
The report also mentioned that the police officers had a search warrant from the court, relating to an alleged invitation of the former president as a guest of honor for the launch of a feed the poor program in Kitwe on Saturday.
However, the Copperbelt Province Police Chief has dismissed these claims as false during his interaction with the media.
