President Hakainde Hichilema has made a groundbreaking move by accepting the role of Champion of Foundational Learning in Africa, a position requested by the Association of Development of Education in Africa. This decision sets him apart as the very first champion of Foundational Learning on the continent, signifying a significant step towards enhancing education standards across Africa.
Education Minister Douglas Syakalima, speaking to the press earlier today, highlighted the numerous challenges that Foundational Learning in Africa faces. These obstacles include limited access to education due to poverty, insufficient funding, inadequate infrastructure, teacher shortages, and subpar quality of education.
Minister Syakalima emphasized the urgent necessity for a champion of foundational learning to advocate for addressing these challenges effectively. He stressed the importance of having President Hichilema in this role, as it will enable the champion to push for policies and initiatives that promote early childhood development and enhance the quality of primary education in the early grades.
