The National Health Insurance Management Authority, also known as NHIMA, has taken the decision to temporarily suspend the accreditation of private health care providers.
This move, effective immediately, aims to ensure that the quality and standards of healthcare services provided by these providers are up to par.
However, it is important to note that this suspension will not impact those private health care providers who are already offering NHIMA services to the public, nor will it affect facilities whose applications are currently being reviewed for contracting.
According to King Syacika, the Head of Public Relations at NHIMA, private health care providers who wish to apply for accreditation under the NHIMA scheme will have to wait until the official notification of the suspension is lifted.
This means that any new applications for accreditation will not be processed until further notice. Mr. Syacika further explains that a public announcement will be made regarding the call for applications once the suspension is lifted.
The announcement will outline the specific services and geographic regions that will be required based on a thorough needs assessment.
