The Zambia Revenue Authority, through its Corporate Communications Manager Oliver Nzala, has announced the implementation of mandatory pre-clearance of commercial goods starting from 1st May 2024. This initiative aims to streamline operations and reduce the processing time for goods at all border points.
According to Mr. Nzala, communication has been disseminated to various stakeholders including clearing agents, transporters, importers, exporters, and the public. It has been made clear that trucks will not be permitted to enter the customs area without proper documentation proving pre-clearance of the goods.
All parties involved are urged to adhere to this new requirement as the ZRA seeks to minimize delays in cargo clearance at the borders. Mr. Nzala further elaborates that the pre-clearance process involves clearing agents or importers submitting the necessary importation documents to ZRA before the goods arrive in the country.
