President Hakainde Hichilema, during the launch of the Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula Foundation in Lusaka, expressed his confidence in Zambia’s ability to overcome the current challenges caused by the drought. He assured the nation that Zambia will not only be able to provide food for its citizens but also enhance its resilience in order to achieve food and energy security in the future.
President Hichilema urged the citizens to draw inspiration from the strong character of the late Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula and understand that the current situation will eventually become a part of history. However, he emphasized that overcoming these challenges would require hard work and dedication from every Zambian.
The president commended the organizers of the Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula Foundation, acknowledging the importance of events like this in allowing present-day individuals to learn from the remarkable leaders of the past, including Mr. Nkumbula and others who played a significant role in Zambia’s freedom.
Chief Justice Mumba Malila, in a public lecture, emphasized the need to honor Zambia’s fallen heroes across different fields. He described the late Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula as a leader who consistently exhibited exceptional leadership qualities, which should serve as an example for everyone to follow.
The establishment of the Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula Foundation aims to preserve the memory of the late Nkumbula and promote and defend the principles of liberal nationalism that he strongly believed in.
