The Bombardier Global Express aircraft, which was previously linked to a gold scandal last year, has been released by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), according to DEC Director General Nason Banda. This decision was made following a meticulous legal process as mandated by the courts of law.
Mr. Banda emphasized that the commission holds the authority to release assets if investigations determine that the property is not subject to forfeiture, as outlined in section 18 of the Prohibition and Prevention of Money Laundering Act 44 of 2010.
The owners of the aircraft presented their case in court, leading to an agreement between the Director of Public Prosecutions and other involved parties, culminating in a consent judgement signed by the court. Mr. Banda shared this information during a press briefing held in Lusaka today.
Additionally, Mr. Banda revealed that the commission has confiscated and forfeited over 800 million Kwacha, believed to be proceeds of crime from various resolved cases. He confirmed that the funds have been securely deposited into government-controlled accounts.
