Commander of the Zambia Army, Lieutenant General Sitali Dennis Alibuzwi, expressed his commitment to supporting and motivating athletes from various sports disciplines within the Army, with the aim of contributing to the overall growth of sports in the country.
In a recent Promotion Ceremony held in Lusaka, Lt Gen Alibuzwi commended the Copper Queens Captain, Banda Barbara, and the Green Buffaloes players for their determination and resilience, especially after overcoming a 2-1 deficit in the first leg against Morocco.
As a token of appreciation, players like Staff Sergeant Mupopo Kabange and recruits Kundananji Racheal, Ngambo Musole, Siamfuko Esther, and Banda Esther, who were not promoted, will receive a reward of K10,000 each, while the promoted players will receive K5,000 each.
The promotions include Sergeants Banda Barbra, Nachula Racheal, and Mulenga Anita to the rank of Staff Sergeant, as well as Corporal Lungu Ireen to the rank of Sergeant.
Lance Corporals Tembo Martha and Mweemba Lushomo were also promoted.
Lt Gen Alibuzwi clarified that recruits like Ngambo Musole, who were recently enlisted, will be promoted after completing their military basic training.
Despite the challenges they faced, the players represented both the country and the Zambia Army in the women’s national football team, which successfully qualified for the Olympics. Staff Sergeant Banda expressed the team’s unwavering belief and determination to stage a comeback against all odds.
Ssgt Banda expressed gratitude towards the Commander Zambia Army for the promotion and emphasized that the team’s attention will now be directed towards preparing for the Olympics scheduled to start in July, 2024 in Paris.
In the meantime, Goalkeeper Musole shared that her comeback to the national team was a challenging journey and she is determined to give her all to bring pride to the country.
