Megamillions, a battery producer from South Africa, has emphasized the importance of skills development in Zambia for the successful production of electric car batteries.

The founder and CEO of Megamillions, Naichan Nacker, pointed out that China’s leading battery manufacturer, CATL, has a significant number of PHD holders, while Africa lacks specialized professionals in the battery sector.

Mr. Nacker stressed the need for Zambia to invest in building a skilled workforce capable of copper foil fabrication, cabling, and other essential skills for electric vehicle battery production.

He highlighted the significance of copper foil in EV battery manufacturing, stating that it is an irreplaceable component that gives Zambia a competitive edge in producing batteries on a large scale.

Mr. Nacker mentioned that both Zambia and Congo are still far from manufacturing complete electric vehicle batteries and should focus on producing components like batteries in the interim.
