Zesco’s Managing Director, Victor Mapani, is suggesting the creation of the Luapula River Authority to tap into alternative power sources for the Northern circuit region.
Mr. Mapani emphasized the importance of negotiating with DR Congo to establish this authority, which would help address the challenges caused by a prolonged drought affecting Zambia’s hydroelectric power generation.
Mr. Mapani highlighted that the Luapula River Authority would not only exploit the energy potential of the Luapula River but also reduce the reliance on power generation in the southern province.
He believes that this authority would play a crucial role in advancing hydroelectric projects and exploring renewable energy sources like solar and wind power.
Mr. Mapani pointed out that besides enhancing energy security, the establishment of the Luapula River Authority could boost economic growth, create job opportunities, and foster overall development in the country.
