Fred M’membe, the President of the Socialist Party (SP), revealed that a Statutory Instrument will be released on the day of his presidential inauguration in Zambia to officially designate Western Province as Barotseland.
This announcement was made during a visit by Dr. M’membe to Ngambela Mukela Manyando, the Prime Minister of Barotseland, at the Limulunga Palace, the seat of the Litunga, the King of Barotseland.
Dr. M’membe emphasized that extensive consultations had been conducted regarding the Barotseland matter and assured that the name change would take effect immediately upon his swearing-in.
He further stated that the renaming of Western Province to Barotseland would not have any adverse effects on the country as a whole and should be allowed to proceed without hindrance.
Dr. M’membe highlighted that such changes in names were not uncommon, citing examples of regions and countries that have undergone similar transformations based on necessity.
Meanwhile, Ngambela Mukela Manyando affirmed that the governance system of the Barotseland Royal Establishment (BRE) remained fully operational and functional throughout Barotseland.
The Ngambela expressed gratitude towards Dr. M’membe for the respectful visit to the Traditional Leadership, as stated in a press release by Brian Hapunda, the SP Director of Media.
