The police in Western Province have reported that the late Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) Induna Inete, Akapelwa Silumbu, was shot by an unknown assailant as he returned to his vehicle after bringing a few items into his house.
According to Provincial Police Commissioner Chileshe Mukuka, the incident occurred when Induna Inete was shot from behind while seated in the driver’s seat, with his right leg almost touching the ground.
Mr. Mukuka further elaborates that prior to the shooting, Mr. Silumbu had left his residence around 9:00 pm to deliver a bag of mealie meal to an undisclosed location in Limulunga, and returned home by 10:00 pm.
Upon his return, Mr. Silumbu asked his niece to open the door for him, then proceeded to bring a few items into the kitchen before heading back to his vehicle, where he was attacked by an unknown assailant who had apparently been waiting for him in the yard.
The police commissioner mentions that although the sound of the gunshot was heard by villagers in the vicinity, they assumed it was Mr. Silumbu firing his shotgun into the air to deter thieves who had been stealing maize from his storeroom in the courtyard.
