On the occasion of Youth Day in Zambia, while many young people will be celebrating, four young men from Choma will be facing legal consequences for their involvement in drug trafficking activities.
The Drug Enforcement Commission, through their public relations officer Mwenge Mulenga, revealed that the four individuals were caught after one of them, Lushomo Banda, was found in possession of 68 sachets of heroin, weighing more than four grams.
Among the group were Gift Mudenda, a 20-year-old male, Luckson Mulunda, a 23-year-old male, and Simon Mashikini, a 27-year-old male, who were also found with loose cannabis in their possession, according to Mulenga’s statement.
In a separate operation in the Northern Province, the DEC arrested Febian Chipasha, a 67-year-old male from Chitoshi Village in Lunte District, and Gabriel Chama, a 35-year-old from Kabuta Village in Luwingu District, for unlawful cultivation of large quantities of fresh cannabis plants.
Mulenga emphasized that all the suspects, including those from Choma and the Northern Province, have been charged under the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances Act of Zambia and are currently in police custody awaiting their court appearances.
