Following our participation in the Nc’wala ceremony of the Ngoni speaking people in Eastern Province, we made our way to Namibia to pay our respects at the funeral service of the esteemed late former President of Namibia, His Excellency Dr. Hage Gottfried Geingob, as stated by President Hakainde Hichilema.
The transition from the vibrant cultural celebration in Zambia to the solemn gathering in Namibia was a poignant reminder of the diverse experiences and responsibilities that come with leadership in the region.
President Hichilema’s presence at the funeral service underscored the importance of unity and solidarity among African leaders, as they come together to honor and remember one of their own who has passed on.
During the liberation struggle of his country, Dr. Geingob spent over 17 years in Zambia, where he was regarded as a brother by the people. This sentiment was expressed by the president, highlighting the close bond that was formed between Dr. Geingob and the Zambian community during his time in the country.
President Hakainde Hichilema paid tribute to Dr Geingob, emphasizing his unwavering commitment and tireless efforts in promoting peace, stability, and democracy in Namibia, SADC, and the African Continent. Hichilema fondly remembered Dr Geingob as a strong advocate for regional integration, a belief that left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
Upon taking office as the newly elected President in the SADC region, President Geingob graciously shared valuable insights with us that cannot be taught in a classroom but are only gained through firsthand experience, much like President Hichilema had mentioned in his recollection.
When President Geingob assumed his role, he took the opportunity to impart wisdom that goes beyond textbooks, emphasizing the importance of learning through practical experience, a sentiment echoed by President Hichilema in his reflections on leadership.
Our hearts are united with the people of Namibia as we express our unwavering support and extend our heartfelt condolences. In this time of sorrow, we stand in solidarity with the nation, offering our prayers and thoughts to those affected by this tragic loss. As we bid farewell to this courageous son of Africa, may he find eternal peace and rest, forever remembered for his remarkable contributions and unwavering dedication to his homeland.
