The government has announced plans to propose adjustments to the 2024 national budget in order to allocate funds for vulnerable households throughout the country, according to Finance and National Planning Minister, Situmbeko Musokotwane.
Dr. Musokotwane emphasized that it is crucial for the government to ensure that all citizens have access to enough food, highlighting the importance of food security in the country.
In addition to addressing food security concerns, the Minister pointed out the high dependency on hydroelectricity, which could lead to limited power supply if alternative solutions are not found to mitigate the issue.
Dr. Musokotwane stressed the importance of careful management of financial resources, especially in light of the challenges posed by the ongoing drought situation.
The Treasury is currently awaiting response proposals to help guide the adjustments that will be made to the 2024 budget, as disclosed by the Minister.
Despite the challenges faced, the Minister expressed optimism about the economy’s prospects for the year ahead, indicating that it is expected to be in a strong position moving forward.
These statements were made by Dr. Musokotwane during a Ministerial address on the economic performance as of January 31, 2024, underscoring the government’s commitment to addressing key issues affecting the country.
