Yango, the international ride-hailing service, has recently unveiled a series of support measures designed to assist partner drivers in Zambia. These initiatives mark the initial phase of a broader strategy that Yango has developed after conducting an in-depth analysis of the evolving economic landscape in the Zambian market. The primary objective of these measures is to alleviate the financial strain on drivers while establishing a conducive environment for them to operate and enhance their livelihoods.
One of the key support measures introduced by Yango is a significant increase in the cost per kilometer within the Yango tariff structure for drivers, amounting to a 23% rise. This adjustment is aimed at achieving economic equilibrium and ensuring that the service conditions are advantageous for all parties involved. The breakdown of the cost adjustments is structured based on different service modes and locations, with varying percentage increases in urban cities and suburbs.
Kabanda Chewe, the Country Manager of Yango Zambia, emphasized the company’s unwavering commitment to assisting partner drivers during these challenging times. He highlighted that these measures are part of a comprehensive strategy that Yango has been diligently developing to address the needs of its stakeholders. By striving to establish fair pricing mechanisms and fostering a balanced ecosystem for partners, drivers, and consumers, Yango aims to pave the way for a more sustainable urban mobility landscape in Zambia.
Additionally, Yango has announced the distribution of fuel discount cards to a select group of top-performing drivers, chosen based on customer feedback. These cards are intended to help drivers save on fuel expenses and enhance operational efficiency, thereby serving as a valuable resource during the current economic uncertainties. The fuel discount cards offer a K1.0/litre discount on fuel purchases made at any Mount Meru gas station in Lusaka, further demonstrating Yango’s commitment to supporting its drivers in navigating the challenges they face.
As an example, if a driver purchases 10 liters of fuel per day, they have the opportunity to save up to K300 every month. Yango, the international tech company, has also introduced a special incentive for their best drivers. These drivers will receive food discount vouchers worth K50 each, which can be used at Yango Deli. This initiative aims to support drivers in saving money on lunch expenses and ensuring their overall well-being while carrying out their daily tasks.
One of the partner drivers, Daniel Simuyamba, expressed his gratitude towards Yango for implementing this program. He acknowledged the company’s recognition of his hard work and stated that it serves as motivation for him to continue giving his best. Simuyamba emphasized the significant impact this initiative will have on his expenses, as fuel plays a major role in the business of drivers. With Yango’s support, he will be able to save more and improve his income.
Yango also places great importance on the safety of all its stakeholders, particularly drivers and passengers. The company is heavily investing in advanced safety features in the Zambian market and encourages drivers to utilize these features through the Yango Pro app to ensure their safety at all times. Furthermore, Yango has announced that additional safety features will be launched in the upcoming weeks, further enhancing the safety measures for both drivers and passengers.
