Over the course of the previous year, President Hakainde Hichilema encouraged our local communities to adopt farming practices in order to ensure food security at home and generate income from selling any excess produce. Despite the enthusiastic response from the community, the devastating effects of a harsh drought have caused significant damage to their crops. Nevertheless, the people have shown remarkable resilience in the face of this challenge.
The president recently highlighted the bravery and resourcefulness of rural farmers who have been facing the challenges brought on by a severe drought. These farmers have shown incredible heroism by taking matters into their own hands and finding innovative ways to ensure their crops survive.
In the face of adversity, these farmers have resorted to drawing water from various sources such as rivers, streams, and wells to irrigate their fields. Some have gone as far as using oxen-drawn carts, sledges, and even trucks to transport water to their crops, showcasing their determination and dedication to their livelihoods.
The efforts of these rural farmers serve as a testament to their resilience and unwavering commitment to overcoming obstacles. Their willingness to adapt and find solutions in the midst of a crisis is truly inspiring and deserving of recognition and praise.
