In a recent incident, thieves managed to break into one of the Zambia National Service (ZNS) facilities located at Kasumbalesa Boarder.
This particular facility was responsible for housing imported eagles’ mealie meal, which was intended for export to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The ZNS Chief Marketing and Public Relations Officer, Mable Nyone, has revealed that a total of 212 bags of mealie meal, each weighing 25 kilograms, were stolen.
The estimated value of the stolen goods amounts to over K68,000. This unfortunate event has been deemed a setback to the commendable efforts of the ZNS in supporting the government’s initiatives to generate additional resources, thereby complementing the funds received from the treasury.
In response to this incident, Colonel Nyone has issued a statement expressing the ZNS’s determination to collaborate with the Zambia Police in order to vigorously pursue the individuals responsible for this irresponsible criminal act.
Their primary objective is to ensure that justice is served. Colonel Nyone further emphasized that the perpetrators not only face charges related to breaking and entering and theft, but they may also be charged for illegally offloading Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) commodities on the local market if they attempt to sell the stolen mealie meal within Zambia.
