Brebner Changala, a prominent civil rights activist, has recently voiced his demand for the immediate resignation of Cornelius Mweetwa, who currently holds the positions of Information and Media Minister as well as Chief Government Spokesperson. Changala’s call for Mweetwa’s resignation stems from concerns regarding his performance and effectiveness in these crucial roles. As a respected advocate for civil rights, Changala believes that a change in leadership is necessary to ensure transparency, accountability, and the protection of citizens’ rights in the realm of information and media.
Mr. Mweetwa’s purported engagement in making tribal comments on behalf of the opposition UPND and his alleged involvement in a bribery scandal with a journalist from KBN have led to this development.
Mr. Changala has alleged that Mr. Mweetwa is unfit to hold the position of Minister and Government Spokesperson, citing his controversial remarks. He is urging President Hakainde Hichilema to swiftly address this matter and take into consideration the increasing demands for Mr. Mweetwa’s resignation or dismissal.
According to Changala, Mr. Mweetwa has confessed to engaging in unlawful activities, and he expresses his anticipation for the prompt intervention of the police to halt what he refers to as criminal acts supported by the government.
Charles Chanda, the leader of United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia, has urged for the apprehension and legal action against Mr. Mweetwa following his recent disclosure. Mweetwa revealed that the UPND collaborated with PF Member Chishimba Kambwili to make tribal comments, with the intention of generating animosity towards then President Edgar Lungu and ultimately overthrowing him. Chanda emphasizes the need for accountability and justice in this matter.
In order to facilitate a thorough investigation into the allegations, Mr. Chanda has made a formal request for Mr. Mweetwa to step down from his position based on moral considerations. This request aims to ensure that the investigation can proceed without any potential conflicts of interest or bias, allowing for a fair and unbiased examination of the matter at hand. By calling for Mr. Mweetwa’s resignation, Mr. Chanda is emphasizing the importance of upholding ethical standards and maintaining the integrity of the investigation process.
