The press briefing at Parklands Lodge, organized by the opposition Economic Front Party (EFF) President Kasonde Mwenda, was abruptly interrupted by the police in Kitwe this morning. Flava News reporter Diana Kafwala, who witnessed the incident, reported that just as Mr. Mwenda was about to commence the conference, a contingent of police officers entered the venue and ordered him to cease the briefing, citing the absence of a permit.
The officers not only claimed that the press briefing was unlawful, but they also demanded that journalists cease recording and erase any footage they had captured. Furthermore, they even confiscated the camera belonging to one journalist.
Afterwards, they insisted that all individuals leave the property and erase any existing recordings.
Upon the arrival of extra officers, Mr. Mwenda, his Secretary General Changala Siame, and a few journalists were detained at Riverside Police Station.
