According to Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu, the list of opposition PF office bearers that is claimed to be from the Registrar of Societies is incorrect and unreliable.
The Minister clarifies that the Registrar of Societies has not been terminated from their position, but rather has been assigned to different responsibilities. This statement contradicts the information that has been circulating on social media.
During a media briefing in Lusaka, Mr. Mwiimbu clarified the employment status of the Registrar of Societies. He addressed a purported list that showed former President Edgar Lungu being registered as the PF President in 2002, despite him being a member of the UPND at the time.
Mr. Mwiimbu clarified that late President Michael Sata was the President of the PF party as of 2002, contradicting the information circulating on social media through a purported list.
The Minister clarified that the Registrar of Societies did not issue the list of employment status to PF Lawyer Makebi Zulu based on a court order, as it was falsely claimed. Instead, there was only a subpoena for the presentation of the list in court.
The employment status of the Registrar of Societies has been clarified by Mwiimbu. According to him, the Registrar of Societies cannot issue any list without first consulting with the Attorney General, who serves as the government’s legal representative.
Mr. Mwiimbu clarified that the Registrar of Societies provided information to parliament regarding the changes in the names of PF office bearers. As a result, the Speaker of the National Assembly took note of these changes.
The Minister felt the need to address the issue and provide clarification on the employment status of the Registrar of Societies, even though the matter is currently in court. This decision was made due to the numerous speculations surrounding the case.
