The recognition of Miles Sampa as the president of the Patriotic Front by the Zambian government has raised concerns about a potential constitutional crisis. Zambians United for Sustainable Development has warned that this decision, which they consider to be illegitimate, could have serious implications for the country’s constitutional stability.
Party President Lazarous Chisela has expressed his belief that Mr. Sampa’s presidency could lead to members of parliament boycotting, as the majority of parliamentarians, accounting for 34.7 percent, are against his election.
Mr. Chisela has criticized the UPND leadership for this decision, stating that it is a serious mistake that reflects poorly on the judiciary and the police, who are believed to have been involved in enforcing this unlawful action.
Sampa has urged the government to prioritize both the constitution of Zambia and that of the PF, rather than using state institutions to undermine the opposition party.
In light of the government’s recognition of Miles Sampa as the PF President, Mr. Chisela has called upon other opposition leaders to come together and stand against the reported oppression of PF members. His aim is to safeguard Zambia’s democracy and ensure that the rights and voices of all citizens are protected.
