In response to the recent decrease in fuel prices, the government is urging stakeholders in the transportation industry to come together and propose a reduction in bus fares. This call to action aims to provide relief to commuters and ensure that the benefits of lower fuel costs are passed on to the public. It is hoped that swift action will be taken to make transportation more affordable for all.

Minister of Transport and Logistics Frank Tayali highlights the issue of bus operators raising fares when fuel prices increase, but failing to lower fares when fuel prices decrease. This inconsistency puts a strain on commuters and calls for action from all stakeholders involved in the transport sector.

Mr. Tayali is calling on stakeholders in the transport sector to take action and reduce bus fares for commuters. He points out that fuel prices have significantly decreased over the past three months, and it is only fair that these savings are passed on to consumers. Exploiting commuters with high fares is not acceptable, and it is time for the industry to prioritize the needs of the people they serve.

As of June, petrol is now selling at K24.45 ngwee per liter, which is a decrease from K27.59 ngwee. Similarly, diesel is now selling at K21.87 ngwee from K24.64 ngwee per liter, and kerosene is selling at K19.74 ngwee from K20.47 ngwee per liter. This reduction in fuel prices presents an opportunity for stakeholders in the transport sector to work together to reduce fares and make transportation more affordable for all.
