Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema is set to launch the National Decentralisation Policy and Devolution Support Programme at the Chalimbana Local Government Training Institute in Chongwe District, Lusaka Province. This announcement was made by the Permanent Secretary of Lusaka Province, Robert Kamalata. The launch is expected to be a significant step towards promoting decentralization and devolution in Zambia.
President Hakainde Hichilema is set to launch the National Decentralisation Policy and Devolution Support Programme tomorrow 30th May 2023, according to Mr. Kamalata. This policy aligns with Cabinet Circular number 2 of 2023, which aims to facilitate the transfer of functions from central government to local authorities across the country. The launch of this programme is expected to promote greater local governance and decision-making, as well as improve service delivery to citizens.

The launch is expected to be attended by representatives of Senior Chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo, Chief Bunda Bunda, and the Chairperson of the House of Chiefs, as well as local government authorities and representatives of the United Party for National Development. The aim of the programme is to promote decentralisation and devolution of power in Zambia.
As part of the launch, the President will tour stands for the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) beneficiaries and other implementing stakeholders before officially commissioning the ceremony. This move is aimed at promoting decentralization and devolution in the country, allowing for greater local decision-making and development.
