Zambia’s President, Hakainde Hichilema, has voiced his worries over the reported theft of drugs in the country’s public health facilities. The alleged high level of pilfering of medicines has raised concerns about the availability and accessibility of essential drugs for the Zambian population.
During a press briefing at state house, the president warned that health professionals involved in this illegal activity will face decisive action. The theft of drugs from public health facilities not only puts patients at risk but also undermines the efforts of the government to provide quality healthcare to its citizens.
He emphasized that the government should not be held responsible for the actions of those who are found guilty, and that their priority is to ensure that there is improved service delivery. The President has called for measures to be taken to prevent such thefts from happening in the future, and to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
The President emphasized the need to prioritize the procurement of medical equipment in all public health institutions to address the current shortage.
He has called for action to be taken to address this issue and ensure that citizens have access to the healthcare they need. In addition, he has challenged the opposition to present alternative policies to those of the current government, in order to promote healthy competition and drive progress in the country.
Despite his government’s efforts to implement effective policies for the country, the issue of drug theft remains a pressing concern. President Hichilema recognizes the importance of addressing this issue to ensure the health and well-being of all Zambians.
